The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) signed a protocol of intention with the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) this Wednesday (September 10th) at the Institute's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. The document points to the possibility of new partnerships in the areas of statistics and experimental multidimensional geosciences.
Established in 1967 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), CLACSO currently brings together 950 teaching and research centers in various areas of the Social Sciences and Humanities, spread across 56 countries worldwide. According to Professor Pablo Vommaro, Executive Secretary of CLACSO, "the formalization of the protocol of intention with IBGE is unprecedented in Latin America, contributing to bringing statistical and geoscientific production closer to research and teachings from undergraduate and graduate levels in the humanities in the region."

At the same time, Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE, emphasized that "in addition to the importance of signing the aforementioned Protocol, the establishment of the work plan in the coming days will ensure the execution of the public partnership in response to the new demands of the Global South, especially in terms of geoscience and official statistics."

Also present at the signing ceremony were the General Coordinator of ENCE, Jorge Abrahão de Castro, accompanied by César Augusto Marques da Silva, Deputy General Coordinator, as well as Andrea Diniz da Silva, head of International Relations, Cimar Azeredo Pereira and Denis Maracci Gimenez, from the Presidency's Advisory Office.
