The Brazilian round of the Competition is carried out by the IBGE, through its National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE), together with the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), through the Center for Innovation in Statistical Education (ICE) and aims at fostering statistical literacy within schools and universities.

The competition, which is part of the International Poster Competition and is promoted by the International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP), is a project to encourage statistical literacy by the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE), an association of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).

Bianca Walsh, one of the Brazilian coordinators of the ISI International Statistical Literacy Project and a professor and researcher at the National School of Statistical Sciences (Ence), explains that posters promote the experience of living a statistical research process. “The competition, as it invites students to conduct research using primary or secondary data, in addition to promoting skills that are in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), is essential for life, as it prepares people to think, make decisions and confront misinformation and all types of information pollution with data and evidence.”

“Promoting the Brazilian round of an international competition is an action that strengthens the IBGE as an influential player in the global network of official statistics producers and in the development of good practices in the field of Statistical Sciences. Moreover, it also contributes to fulfilling IBGE's institutional mission of training citizens able to read reality so that they can act in an educated manner about the places where they live,” pointed out Marcos Balster, Educational Affairs Manager and IBGE Educa Manager.
