The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE)´s State Superintendencies (SES) in the states of Amazonas, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima and Sergipe will soon have new State Superintendents.
In July this year, the IBGE started an internal selection process, open to all officers, to pinpoint candidates to manage the Superintendencies in these five states. Altogether, 65 candidates enrolled and passed through several qualifying and knockout selection phases, from curriculum analysis to written tests to assess knowledge and skills to technical interviews, remaining nine candidates, who were assessed by a group of officers representing several IBGE central units. On November 6, the IBGE Board of Directors received the result of this assessment and defined the new Superintendents, with the following result:
Selected candidate | SES |
---|---|
Francisco Braz da Silva Portela | Amazonas (AM) |
Rúbia Francisca Silva Lenza | Minas Gerais (MG) |
Fabiana Fábrega de Oliveira | Rio Grande do Norte (RN) |
Welisson Araujo Cordeiro | Roraima (RR) |
Fábio de Albuquerque Pinto | Sergipe (SE) |
The Manager of Institutional Relations of the IBGE´s Presidency, Walid Nemer Damous Sobrinho, the focal point between the IBGE Board of Directors and SESs, explained that "the IBGE hasn´t carried out any internal selection process for State Superintendencies since 2019, due to positions opened during the operation of the 2022 Population Census and later due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Once surpassed these moments, the demand to immediately resume this process was growing, even from current Superintendents, in order to provide the democratic right of opportunity to a number of officers who show interest in occupy these positions."
Damous also highlightes the role of the State Superintendencies and the importance of a transparent and extensive selection process. "The Superintendencies play a key role in fulfilling the IBGE´s institutional mission. The concentrate the data collection networks that support the entire framework of geoscientific and statistical information produced by the IBGE. Besides meeting the entire range of activities of interest of the Central Administration, not only capturing information, but also performing the institutional articulation and representation at state and municipal levels, by releasing and disseminating this information. Therefore, it is of fundamental importance that the Superintendencies be led by officers belonging to the permanent staff. And who know the administrative and technical activities with their specificities," reinforced Damous.
The Coordinator of Human Resources of the IBGE´s Executive Directorate, Bruno Malheiros, confirms this perception and emphasizes that "carefully selecting the Superintendents is a strategic task. The selection through a selection process allows to pinpoint the best officers in the institution and values the most experienced and qualified ones. The candidates who participated in this selection process and especially those who reached the last phase of the process are very skilled, experienced and show competence and commitment to take this challenge on. We are ver happy with the entire process," concluded Bruno Malheiros.
The next steps for the Superintendents to start their activities are operational issues, like authorization from the Civil Office and appointment in the Official Gazette.
