A presentation about the task force will be streamed on Digital IBGE

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will launch, on Monday, 20, at 10 am, a national task force to train municipal administrators in Rio Grande do Sul on the use of tools provided by the Institute to deal with the worst environmental tragedy in the history of the state.

The IBGE task force will start on a virtual basis, but using the structure available in Rio Grande do Sul to aid in the process of reconstruction of areas hit by floods. The presentation will be conducted by president Marcio Pochmann, and the technical staff of the Institute, and streamed by Digital IBGE (ibge.gov.br) and the Institute’s social media channels.

The IBGE will work in partnership with the federal, state and municipal branches of government and support ministries, but mainly the municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, by providing information on demand to public administrators engaged in the diagnosis, planning and reconstruction of affected areas. Federal, state and municipal authorities taking part in actions to help the state have also been invited.

“A joint effort is necessary to gather information for the reconstruction actions, also considering corrections, so that the target cities can use the main technological resources, make the most of the resources available, employ the main environmental and socio-economic references, aiming at the mitigation of impacts of new environmental changes," explains Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE.

IBGE SINGED Lab

In the same presentation, the IBGE will launch its innovation laboratory, SINGED Lab. Formed by a multidisciplinary team, its objective is to create a welcoming environment for experimentation and generation of new ideas and projects for the diagnosis and planning of public policies, by means of the use of technology combined with a vast assortment of technical, statistical, geoscientific information and data produced by the Institute and stored in the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (SINGED).
