The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) conducts, in Rio Verde (GO), the 2nd pilot test for the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture. The activity is part of the actions in preparation for the national survey and has the objective of assessing, in real field conditions, the functioning of equipment, systems and data collection strategies.

In Rio Verde, which is acknowledged by its presence in the agricultural sector, the test is being conducted as a sample survey focused on specific sectors of the rural area. This approach allows the IBGE to simulated the census operation at a reduced scale, in order to assess the administration of questionnaires and the performance of devices used by the teams.

According to the regional operational agent in Rio Verde, Adriano Moreira: “A pilot test is important for us to test the equipment and operational systems so they will be working properly when we start the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture and all the possible errors have been identified and corrected."

The conduction of the second pilot test is a strategic step for the improvement of the Census, as it allows necessary adjustments after initial experiences and the improvement of data collection processes.  By repeating the tests in new contexts, the IBE expands its capacity to anticipate logistics and operational challenges.

During this phase, not only technological aspects are assessed, but also the approach to informants and the clarity of the questions. These elements are fundamental to ensure quality and reliability of the information collected, which will support the analyses of the agricultural reality in Brazil.

Also, this exercise directly contributes to the training of teams in March, as they start to experience practical situations and develop solutions for difficulties found in the territory. This process strengthens the preparation of professionals for the national step of the survey.

With the second pilot test, the IBGE advances in the improvement of the 12th  Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, thus reinforcing the commitment with the production of consistent and representative data which are essential for the planning of public policies and for a better understanding of the rural sector in Brazil.
