Volume of services changes 0.3% in June

In the seasonally-adjusted series, volume of services in Brazil changed 0.3% in June 2025 over the previous month. As a result, the sector was 18.0% above the pre-pandemic level (February 2020) and renew the pike of the time series this month.

In the seasonally-unadjusted series, volume of services advanced 2.8% over June 2024, the 15th positive rate in a row. The cumulative index in the year reached 2.5% and the cumulative index in 12 months in June 2025 (3.0%) maintained the growth pace over May 2025 (3.0%).

The change of 0.3% in volume of services in June 2025, in the seasonally-adjusted series, was observed in only one out of five activities surveyed: transportation (1.5%), which registered an increase in the revenue of companies that operate cargo road transportation and air passenger transportation.

On the other hand, the other sectors recorded negative rates, especially other services (-1.3%), which offset almost the entire gain in May (1.5%), and services rendered to families (-1.4%), with the third consecutive drop and a cumulative loss of 1.8%. Other activities showed slight negative changes: information and communication services (-0.2%) and professional, administrative and complementary services (-0.1%), which smoothly reduced the gains in May, when the first sector advanced 0.8% and the last, 0.9%.

The quarterly moving average was 0.3% in the quarter ended in June 2025, compared to the previous month. Among the sectors, still in the seasonally-adjusted series, the positive behavior of the services sector, in this type of indicator, was followed by three out of five activities: transportation (0.7%); professional, administrative and complementary services (0.3%); and information and communication services (0.2%). In the opposite direction, other services (-0.6%) and services rendered to families (-0.6%) showed a decrease in June.

Compared with June 2024, volume of services advanced 2.8%, its 15th positive rate in a row. The result this month was followed by three out of five activities and also counted with a growth in 53.6% of the 166 types of services investigated.

Among the sectors, information and communication services (5.7%) and transportation, support services to transportation and mailing (3.0%) exerted the major positive impacts, mainly driven by the increasing revenue in portals, content providers and other information services on the Internet; consulting in information technology; data treatment, application service providers and Internet hosting services; software development and licensing; and technical support, maintenance and other information technology services, in the first sector; and air transportation of passengers; cargo logistics; cargo road transportation; and airport concessionaires, in the second one.

The other advance came from professional, administrative and complementary services (2.4%), largely explained by the increasing revenue coming from business management consultancy; agencying of advertisement; business intermediation in general through applications or e-commerce platforms; cleaning activities; and private surveillance and security.

On the other hand, other services (-1.3%) and services rendered to families (-1.2%) exerted the negative influences this month, especially pressured by the lower revenue coming from credit card management; management of stock exchange and organized over-the-counter markets; repair and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment; and securities and securities brokerages, in the first sector; and restaurants, in the last one.

The cumulative index in the first semester (January to June 2025), compared to the same period of the previous year, expanded 2.5%, with four out of five dissemination activities pointing positive rates and a growth in 57.8% of the 166 types of services investigated. Among the sectors, the most important positive contribution came from the sector of information and communication services (6.2%), largely leveraged by the increasing revenue from companies operating in the segments of portals, content providers and other information services on the Internet; software development and licensing; data treatment, application service providers and Internet hosting services; On-demand development of computer programs; and Information technology consulting.

The other advances came from transportation, support services to transportation and mailing (1.7%); professional, administrative and complementary services(2.3%); and those rendered to families (1.9%), mainly explained by the increase in the revenue from companies that operate with passenger air transportation; cargo logistics; airport operation; inland cargo navigation; management of ports and terminals; and pipeline transportation, in the first sector; agencying of advertisement; business management consulting; business intermediation in general through applications or e-commerce platforms; general cleaning; and reservation services related to accommodation, in the second one; and restaurants; hotels; and catering services, in the last one.

In the opposite direction, other services (-2.2%) exerted the only negative influence, largely pressured by a lower revenue from auxiliary activities of financial services; credit card administration; management of funds by contract or commission; and maintenance and repair of motor vehicles.

Services grow in 11 out of 27 Federation Units in June

In regional terms, the minority (11) of the 27 Federation Units expanded in volume of services in June 2025, compared to the immediately preceding month, highlighting the slight increase observed in Brazil's outcome (0.3%).

The largest positive impacts came from the Federal District (2.3%) and Paraná (0.8%), followed by Mato Grosso do Sul (2.2%), Espírito Santo (0.9%) and Tocantins (4.5%). In contrast, Minas Gerais (-1.2%), São Paulo (-0.2%) and Rio de Janeiro (-0.6%) exerted the main negative influences this month.

Compared with June 2024, the advance in volume of services in Brazil (2.8%) was followed by 19 out of 27 Federation Units. The most important positive contribution came from São Paulo (4.0%), followed by the Federal District (13.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (4.5%) and Mato Grosso (7.8%). In the opposite direction, Bahia (-2.8%) led the losses this month, followed by Goiás (-1.6%) and Pernambuco (-1.4%).

In the cumulative index from January to June 2025, compared to the same period of 2024, the advance in volume of services in Brazil (2.5%) occurred in 20 out of 27 FUs. The major positive impact in regional terms occurred in São Paulo (3.9%), followed by Rio de Janeiro (2.0%), Federal District (7.9%) and Santa Catarina (4.6%). On the other hand, Rio Grande do Sul (-8.5%) recorded the most important negative influence on the national index.

Tourism activities retreat 0.9% in June

In June 2025, the tourism activities index retreated 0.9% compared to the immediately preceding month, the second consecutive negative result, when it accumulated a loss of 1.3%. As a result, the tourism segment was 11.6% above the level of February 2020 and 1.8% below the peak of its time series, reached in December 2024.

Eleven out of 17 places surveyed followed this fall movement observed in the national tourism activity (-0.9%). The most relevant negative influence came from Minas Gerais (-4.2%), followed by Rio de Janeiro (-1.5%), Santa Catarina (-3.6%) and Paraná (-2.1%). In the opposite direction, São Paulo (0.6%) and Federal District (3.4%) led the tourism gains this month.

In the June 2025/June 2024 comparison, the tourism activity rate in Brazil expanded 4.1%, the 13th positive result, mainly driven by the increase in the revenue from companies operating in the sector of passenger air transportation; catering services; and hotels. In regional terms, 12 out of 17 Federation Units where the indicator is investigated showed advancement in tourism services, especially São Paulo (3.6%), Rio de Janeiro (8.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (38.5%), followed by Federal District (7.5%), Paraná (4.7%) and Amazonas (14.2%). In contrast, Minas Gerais (-7.6%) exerted the major negative impact of the month.

In the cumulative index from January to June 2025, the special aggregate of tourism activities showed an expansion of 6.6% compared to the same period last year, mainly driven by revenue increases obtained by companies in the sector of passenger air transportation; reservation services related to accommodation; restaurants; and hotels. In regional terms,14 out of 17 places investigated also registered positive rates, highlighted by the gains from São Paulo (6.1%) and Rio de Janeiro (14.2%), followed by Bahia (9.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (9.4%), Santa Catarina (7.7%) and Parana (5.5%). In the opposite direction, Minas Gerais (-1.8%) and Mato Grosso (-4.3%) marked the only losses in tourism.

Passenger (2.1%) and cargo transportation (0.7%) advance in June

In June 2025, volume of passenger transportation in Brazil registered a 2.1% expansion compared to the immediately preceding month, in the seasonally-adjusted series, the fifth consecutive positive result, a period in which it accumulated a gain of 14.3%. Therefore, the segment is, in this reference month, 12.4% above the level of February 2020 ( pre-pandemic) and 13.7% below February 2014 (peak of the time series). In its turn, volume of cargo transportation advanced 0.7% in June 2025, after losing 0.5% in the last two months. Therefore, the segment was 6.2% below the peak of its time series (July 2023). Regarding the pre-pandemic level, cargo transportation was 35.4% above February 2020.

In the comparison with June 2024, passenger transportation was up 10.4% in June 2025, the tenth positive result in a row, while cargo transportation advanced 0.4%, the second consecutive advance.

In the cumulative index in the first semester of 2025, passenger transportation expanded 6.7% compared to the same period of 2024, while that of cargo retreated 1.1% in the same period.
