Animal slaughter, egg production and milk acquisition grow in Q2

Animal slaughter (cattle, hogs and pigs, and chicken), hen egg production and milk acquisition grew in the second quarter of 2025, both compared to the second quarter of 2024 and with the first quarter of 2025. Leather acquisition also increased compared to the second quarter of 2024, but it was the only activity with a fall compared to the first quarter of 2025.
The results are part of the first results of the IBGE´s Livestock Statistics. The data from animal slaughter and milk acquisition are collected in establishments under some type of health inspection (municipal, state or federal).
Cattle slaughter grows 3.3% compared to the second quarter of 2024
In the second quarter of 2025, 10.40 million cattle were slaughtered. This amount represents a high of 3.3% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and of 5.4% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Cattle slaughter resulted in 2.63 million tonnes of carcasses, a 1.0% growth compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 6.0% over the first quarter of 2025.
Swine slaughter rises 1.6% against the second quarter of 2024
The slaughter of hogs and pigs added up to 14.87 million head in the second quarter of 2025, an increase of 1.6% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and of 3.8% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Carcasses added up to 1.40 million tonnes, up 4.7% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 6.1% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Chicken slaughter increases 1.1% compared to the second quarter of 2024
In the second quarter of 2025, 1.64 billion chickens were slaughtered. This result represents a 1.1% increase compared to the second quarter of 2024 and stability (0.0%) compared to the first quarter of 2025.
The cumulative weight of carcasses was 3.56 million tonnes, equivalent to a growth of 2.7% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and of 2.4% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Acquisition of raw milk grows 9.3% compared to the second quarter of 2024
Acquisition of raw milk amounted to 6.50 billion liters in the second quarter of 2025. The amount corresponds to an increase of 9.3% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and of 0.1% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Leather acquisition is up 2.6% against the second quarter of 2024
The tanneries received 10.55 million whole pieces of raw hide in the second quarter of 2025. This amount indicated a 2.6% increase compared to the second quarter of 2024 and a reduction of 1.9% compared to the first quarter of 2025. The data comes from facilities that tan at least 5,000 whole pieces of raw hide per year.
Hen egg production increases 4.0% compared to the second quarter of 2024
The production of hen eggs amounted to 1.22 billion dozen in the second quarter of 2025, a 4.0% increase compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 1.6% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
