In Belém, registration is open for workshop at Casa Brasil IBGE COP

Casa Brasil IBGE COP will start its training activities with the workshop Mastering IBGE Data, aimed at training participants in the access and use of the Institute's digital platforms. The workshop, which is part of the initiative of democratization of access to statistical data, will take place from March 19 to 26, from 9 am to noon, at the Federal University of Pará, in Belém.

With a collection of more than 1 trillion variables and 1.5 billion data, the workshop has the objective of spreading knowledge about the digital resources of the IBGE, thus facilitating the use of information that can support public policies and academic research. The initiative has as its target audience students, professors, academic, public managers members of non-governmental organizations (ONGs) and persons interested in the topic.

Development of Public Policies

The IBGE Superintendency in Pará, Rony Cordeiro, explains that, for each type of audience, the workshop has a specific importance. According to him, in the case of public managers, acquisition of knowledge by means of the IBGE digital tools,  “allow the development of public policies that improve the population's living conditions.”

“To the academic world (students, professors and researchers), the workshop provides disaggregated data that allow the development to reveal aspects of reality non observable in aggregated data,” Cordeiro explained.

The content of the workshop is organized into three modules:

SIDRA (IBGE Automatic retrieval System) – an essential tool for the extraction and analysis of data;

Census Overview – an approach about the main results and methodologies from the latest Population Census;

Cities – a study of municipal and regional indicators for planning and analysis. 

The activities will be conducted by experts from the IBGE who are part of the facilitating team at the Superintendency of Pará: Liliane Regina da Costa Oliveira; Victor Costa dos Reis; Marco Aurélio Arbage Lobo and Luiz Cláudio do Monte Martins.

Registration and certification

Free registration is open from Feb 17 to Mar 14, at the IBGE online shop (https://loja.ibge.gov.br). There are no prerequisites. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop for use as complementary education in several fields. 

Visiting Casa Brasil IBGE COP

Casa Brasil IBGE COP has been open for visitation since the beginning of February on Tuesdays and Thursdays, without the need of booking for groups of up to 10 people. For bigger groups (10 people or more), booking is compulsory and visits will be on Wednesdays, respected booking rules and the limited number of participants. 

Some of the visiting rules are:

  • Booking will be confirmed by email at the registered address within five business days;
  • The facility has a multimedia information stand for users to visit SIDRA and access a small collection of IBGE publications;
  • Each group must have a maximum of 20 people, and the presence of one adult for every 10 children or minors is advisable;
  • Cancellation or delay must be informed at least 24 hours in advance;
  • If the group is delayed up to 15 minutes, the visit will be maintained;
  • Maximum duration of each visit: 2 hours;
  • Casa Brasil IBGE does not offer transportation for groups.
