Young statisticians from the entire world can enroll in the 2025 edition of the IAOS Young Statisticians Prize. The goal of the prize is to encourage the participation of statistical professionals aged up to 35 years who work in an official statistical office in the area of official statistics. Among other benefits, author(s) of the winning article will earn 1,500 euros and the chance to present their work in an international statistical conference. Articles should be sent up to February 21, 2025. Additional information is available on the official site of the prize.

Articles should approach and propose solutions for urgent strategic or methodological issues in the area of official statistics at regional, national or international level. In addition, they should be limited to four thousand words, submitted in English and not previously presented in any public forum or published. At maximum, three co-authors are allowed for each submission and an author can participate in only one submission.

Works will be assessed by an international panel of experts, who will judge the articles based on the following criteria: strategic and/or scientific merit; originality; applicability of the ideas in the practices of the statistical organizations; and quality of the presentation. The three first articles in general will be awarded, as well as the best article from a developing country. Winning articles will be considered for publication in the Statistical Journal of the IAOS (SJIAOS).

"This prize is very important, as it encourages the academic production and the specialization within the IBGE, allowing not only an individual achievement of the officer, but also showing part of the work carried out by the IBGE," highlights Roberto Sant´Anna, IBGE Manager of International Relations. He reminds that IBGE professionals have already won the prize in previous years.

Founded in 1985, the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO), created and developed as a specialized section of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). Therefore, IAOS is an association of legal and physical persons with a professional or scientific interest in the field of official statistics, gathering producers and users of official statistics.

"The participation of IBGE officers in relevant awards like the IAOS Young Statisticians is in line with the goal of even more improving and strengthening the international insertion of the IBGE. It is a prize that present current themes, which are in the agenda, i.e., it is an opportunity to interact with subjects currently discussed at international level," concludes Sant´Anna.
