The National Bank of Social and Economic Development (BNDES) and the Foundation Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) signed, on Wednesday, 10, at the headquarters of the Bank, in Rio de Janeiro, a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) aiming at the exchange of information and the cooperative conduction of studies and surveys that will contribute to the implementation of public policies. The agreement was signed by Nelson Barbosa, director of Planning and Institutional Relations of the BNDES and Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE.

The agreement will be valid for 48 months and does not provide for transfers of financial resources between the institutions, but allows the elaboration of special sector tabulations using data compiled by the IBGE and BNDES. Detailed statistical information is expected in the fields of investment, labor and employment, territory-related criteria and subdivisions adopted by the IBGE, with an emphasis on the topic “Favelas and Urban Communities”, and the implementation of a simplified process for BNDES surveys to be carried out by the IBGE.

“Under president Lula’s administration, the BNDES recovered its position as a protagonist in Brazil’s economic, social and environmental development. And the partnership with the IBGE will add to the advance of planning, and in the monitoring and assessment of policies implemented by the Bank,” says Aloizio Mercadante, president of the Institution.

“The productive dialogue between the boards of directors of IBGE and BNDES allowed the formalization of a legal instrument that consolidates technical cooperation towards national development. Within the completion of our work plan, the results we will reach make both the IBGE’s and the BNDES’ missions even more effective,” says president Márcio Pochmann.

The agreement was signed by Nelson Barbosa, director of Planning and Institutional relations of the IBGE, and by Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE.

An unprecedented matrix

The IBGE is the main producer of data and information about the reality of Brazil. With this agreement, BNDES will have access to analysis by sector and will be able to help the IBGE in the elaboration of data on fixed Investments in the country that allow the Institutions to develop, in partnership, of a Capital Flow Matrix that can benefit the System of National Accounts. This new matrix will consist of the establishment of expenditure profiles on Gross Fixed Capital Formation products and services by economic activity, a piece of information not yet available in the Brazilian statistical system.

As for the topic of employment, the partnership will allow the elaboration of statistical detail about labor economics that can be useful to increase knowledge of the effects of the BNDES’s work and generate more information for researchers and the society in general.
