With an audience of more than 100 participants, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) conducted, on Friday (14), the workshop A territory of information: Potentialities of Data in the 2022 Census, which dealt with the technical and operational aspects of the 2022 Population Census, besides showing the potential of this survey as an aid to public and private administrators.

The event was held at the headquarters of the Bank of the Northeast (BNB) in the Passaré neighborhood in Fortaleza (CE), as part of the activities promoted to disseminate 2022 Population Census results: National Address List for Statistical Purposes (CNEFE), which was officially launched in the morning of the same day. Both the event and the workshop supported by the partnership with BNB, which was responsible for the venue where the event was held.

The technical workshop in Fortaleza (CE) was attended by more than 100 people

The first part of the workshop consisted of the presentation of the Population Census, the figures in the operation and the innovations in this edition. Gustavo Junger, technical coordinator of the Census, gave the presentation.

As the only survey that reaches all the housing units in Brazil, the Population Census generates results at municipal and intra-municipal levels. These socioeconomic data are fundamental for public administration and to guide private Investments.

The workshop started with a presentation by the technical coordinator of the Census, Gustavo Junger

After that, the manager of CNEFE, Eduardo Baptista, assisted by analyst Fernando Soares, discussed the potentialities of the Census, focusing on the understanding and use of the Address List.

“This piece of data can be an input, so that the manager can combine, analyze it, either alone or together with other databases, and extract relevant information for the planning of each area of interest,” Eduardo Baptista said.

Besides introducing the Census operation, the workshop was also intended to present the main tools for access to the data produced: the 2022 Census Overview, the IBGE System of Automatic Retrieval (SIDRA), the Geographic Interactive Platform (PGI) and the Environmental Information Database (BDIA).

In the second part of the workshop, civil servants from both Rio de Janeiro and Ceará worked together to give instructions to the participants. Vanessa Vasconcelos and Helder Rocha, both from the Information Dissemination Department (SDI) of the IBGE Superintendency in Ceará (SES/CE), taught how to use the Overview and SIDRA, respectively. Then, on behalf of the Directorate of Geosciences, Aline Lopes Coelho, manager of integration of Geoinformation Production, presented PGI and Luciana Temponi, manager of Mapping of Natural Resources, explained what the BDIA is about.

Learning for better management

“It is extremely important to be here in this workshop, not only because we want to see the data that were presented today, but also to understand how they can be used in our work, for the improvement of the city of Fortaleza," says Izabel Accioly, director of the Municipal Governance Observatory of the Institute for Research and Planning of Fortaleza (IPPLAN Fortaleza).

IPPLAN Fortaleza was a partner of the SES/CE during the 2022 Census in the capital of Ceará. As the operation was finished and after the release of the first results, Izabel Accioly contacted SDI/CE in order to become familiar with access tools. And now she has brought her entire team to taka part in the workshop.
