The IBGE was awarded in the Data Center category in the fourth edition of the Furukawa Electric Awards, held last week. Projects implemented in several Latin American countries participated in this award, involving innovative connectivity technologies.

The 2024 edition awarded the best projects in the categories Data Center, Utility/Smart City, Telecom, Enterprise, Hospitality/Health and IoT for Industry. Twenty-eight projects from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Mexico participated in this final.

“We are happy with this award. As it comes from a comparison among projects, it shows the quality of the project of our technicians, who makes the IBGE a world-class and relevant institution for Brazil,”stated Marcos Vinícius Ferreira Mazoni, IBGE´s Director of Information Technology.

The registration of the IBGE´s Data Center project was made by the company in charge of the work, Zeittec Soluções em Conectividade Ltda., receiving the prize for implementing the IBGE´s major site in its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

The Data Center was built to support the 2022 Population Census, using a high-technology infrastructure in the mission-critical room, reaching the TIER III classification according to the norm TIA-942. The company was responsible for processing the 2022 Census data, collected by 183 thousand enumerators in 78 million Brazilian households, implementing Furukawa connectivity solutions, including an optical fiber network in a “LAN to LAN” configuration transmitting 100 times faster than the usual IBGE pattern.

Registration was made in August 2023 and projects completed in the years of 2021, 2022 and 2023 could compete

“Aiming at supporting the 2022 Census operation since the end of 2021, the IBGE has a Data Center classified as TIER III, which provides high availability to the environment with redundant electrical and cooling sub-systems. This mission-critical environment also stores the data collected in all the surveys carried out by the IBGE, as well as their results to the society and governmental offices with relevant information to develop public policies for all the Federation States,” explained Marcos Vinícius Ferreira Mazoni.
