Four Ministries, a Regulatory Agency and a Foundation were the bodies visited by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Wednesday, 21st, in Brasília, in a new round of Institutional Dialogue meetings, part of the IBGE 90-Year Dialogue Project.

At the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), minister Luciana Santos and her team met with the president of IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, and special advisor Denis Maracci, with the aim of evaluating joint actions and surveys focusing on the integration of data from the research network of science and technology, in Brazil and abroad. “The IBGE brought here converging demands, we need to improve our database for decision-making in the country, starting with the economy, passing through a perception of the services of our programs, and the effort we need to make to attract the Brazilian brains spread out around the world”, said the MCTI minister.

At the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the topics of the Census of Agriculture, scheduled for 2026, in addition to surveying the profile of producers and collaboration of ministry bodies, such as the National Supply Company (Conab) and the IBGE were discussed at the meeting, as highlights minister Carlos Fávaro. “Our partnership with the IBGE is historical, the IBGE provides guidance for public policies. Today we begin to plan a term of reference so that we can work together on the Census of Agriculture, and think about the surveys that rural people need, with methodologies aligned with Conab, among other possibilities”, stated the Minister of Agriculture.

The Amazon, sustainability and advances in policies for the national sector of fisheries were on the agenda of the first meeting between the IBGE and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture. “There are many actions by the national secretariats of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture that can be carried out in partnership, using the data, information and expertise that IBGE has. Our teams will now work to identify the points where we can act together. The IBGE plays a fundamental role, it is impossible to plan without the IBGE's partnership, so this was a first and very positive meeting, of many that we will have to develop actions in partnership”, highlighted the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, André de Paula, together with his team.

In the afternoon, the president of the IBGE met with the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, and secretaries, to align projects and the Institute's work plan with the ministry, and to invite the Ms. Tebet to the Conference of Statistics Producers and Users, which will be organized by the IBGE in July this year. Then, Mr. Pochmann met with the general director of the National Electrical Energy Agency (ANEEL), Sandoval Feitosa Neto, and his team, to develop joint projects in sharing records and data between the two bodies.

“The meeting was aimed at increasing the working partnership that already exists, as ANEEL already uses information from the IBGE as its main source on Brazilian habits to prepare our regulations, tariffs and rules for the electricity distribution service, and we can help the IBGE in its work, as we are present in 99.8% of Brazilian homes. I see a great possibility, because the IBGE today has a portrait of the Brazilian population, which uses electricity in a different way, so we both need this information mutually”, highlighted Mr. Feitosa.

At the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), the IBGE met with Lucia Alberta, substitute president and director of Promotion of Sustainable Development, representing president Joenia Wapichana, and directors. Among the topics addressed was strengthening the partnership between the IBGE and Funai to expand actions and qualify public policies aimed at Indigenous Peoples. “Funai has had a long-standing partnership with the IBGE, and the data it produces is extremely important for implementing our policies and actions in Indigenous lands, states and municipalities. This meeting gives us hope to continue advancing in terms of strategies so that Indigenous Peoples appear in a more qualified way in the Census of Agriculture, among other important points on this meeting today with the IBGE”, highlighted Lucia Alberta.

For the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, Wednesday's meetings makes the Institute advance with different ministries and bodies of the Republic, “in order to expand partnerships and data sharing to strengthen actions such as the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (SINGED) and to reinforce the IBGE's commitment to providing qualified data so that managers and public policy makers can have access to accurate, updated and dynamic evidence and information about the Brazilian reality”.
