The data of the Persons with disability of the 2022 Continuous PNAD module were presented on Friday (7), in Brasília. IBGE officers, researchers from several academic institutions and government authorities took part in the ceremony in the Ministry of Human Rights, hosted by Anna Paula Feminella, National Secretary of Rights of Persons with Disability.
Opening the event, Cimar Azeredo, Acting President of the IBGE, welcomed all those who carried out the 2022 Population Census - whose first results were released on June 28 -, especially the representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Junia Quiroga, present in the ceremony. Concerning the module of Persons with disability of the Continuous PNAD, the president reminded the origins of this survey and the efforts to include this group in the questionnaires.
“Now the biggest survey on workforce in Latin America talks about persons with disability: it represents a milestone in the statistics produced in Brazil,” said Azeredo. The figures of the survey were detailed by the technical table, comprising Adriana Beringuy, the PNAD´s coordinator; Luanda Chaves Botelho, an IBGE analyst of Social Indicators, and analysts Luciana Alves dos Santos and Rafael Alves. The Ministry of Planning will use these data to follow up public policies.

“We especially welcome the IBGE and all the organizations that recognize the social debt we have with persons with disability, a population stratum also invisible in the indicators, without which we cannot design public policies to implement human rights: your human rights, our human rights. Precise information is key to produce the necessary changes to build a fair society, fight inequalities and include those secularly excluded.”
Anna Paula Feminella, National Secretary of Rights of Persons with Disability
“I congratulate the teams that made this survey possible in a very important theme for the labor market, particularly when it comes to fostering social justice and eliminating discrimination in a society. We are proud that Brazil shows these results based on questions suggested by the Washington Group and that it is possible to show these so solid results to the region.”
Rafael Díez de Medina, Director of Statistics of the International Labor Organization (ILO)
“We can only follow up and assess a public policy if we have data. That is why the IBGE is so fundamental: it is a national heritage that should be defended. It informs us, it makes us smarter. Indeed, we only know what surrounds us because of the IBGE.”
João Villaverde, head of the Special Advisory of the Ministry of Planning and Budget.
“Our goal for 2030 stated in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 8) is to reach full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including youngsters and persons with disability, as well as equal compensation for work of equal value. In this respect, the survey released today has a key role.”
José Ribeiro, representative of the office of the International Labor Organization (ILO)
“It was a huge challenge to arrive here and it is very important to have this view. The Ministry of Planning and Budget fully depends on this information to work with sectoral offices to bring results that the society needs and deserves.”
Márcio Albuquerque, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Budget
