Landline telephone fares contribute to drop in previous inflation of March

The reduction in the fare of local and long-distance calls from landline to mobile telephones, in force in Brazil since February, contributed to the drop of the previous inflation of March. The Telephone item deflated 0.94% and the group of Communication fell 0.19% this month.
Released today by the IBGE, this information came from the Extended National Consumer Price Index 15 - IPCA-15, which changed 0.10% compared with February. In the time series started in 1994, this was the lowest rate for March since 2000, when it registered 0.09%.
The group of Food and Beverages also deflated (-0.07%), after changing 0.76% and 0.13% in January and February, respectively. The segment of Health and Personal Care registered the highest rise (0.54%) and impact (0.07 percentage points) on the monthly index.
