Industrial output remains on slight upward trend in November

From October to November, industry in Brazil recorded a positive change of 0.2%, having kept the same pace of increase as in September and October. That is what shows the Monthly Survey of Industry (PIM/PF-Brasil), released today, by the IBGE.

Among the major economic categories, two recorded an increase in output: durable consumer goods (2.5%), with cars as the main highlight, and intermediate goods (1.4%), mainly basic metals, pulp and part of food production.

According to the manager of the survey, André Macedo, “the effects observed this month have been disseminated among several sectors and products, such as pharmaceuticals, toiletries, pulp, food products and basic metals, which had an effect on the overall index”.

The researcher believes the series of positive results, although marginal, indicate stability in the industrial sector, and recovery from the losses registered in August.

“With only two negative results in the month-on-month comparisons, in March and in August, year 2017 reflects a change in the industry overall, which had recorded negatives rates in 2015 and in November 2016. However, even with the increase of pace, the production of industry recovered only part of the losses of the last few years and it is still 16.7% below the record of June 2013”, says Macedo.
