Industry grows in 10 of 15 places surveyed

The industrial output rose in ten out of 15 places surveyed by the Monthly Industrial Survey - PIM-PF Regional between October and November. The result was released today (14) by the IBGE and it also shows that eight places surpassed the pre-pandemic level of February: Amazonas (14.9%), Santa Catarina (9.5%), Ceará (7.5%), Minas Gerais (6.2%), São Paulo (6%), Paraná (5.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (5.2%) and Pernambuco (1.8%).
In November, the places that registered the most intense growths were Bahia (4.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (3.8%) and Amazonas (3.4%). Bahia rose once again, after retreating in October (-0.1%), being the third positive influence on the overall figure, as well as the highest absolute rate. "The increase in Bahia in November was leveraged by the result of the sectors of pulp and beverages," states Bernardo Almeida, manager of the survey.
The output in Rio Grande do Sul, the second positive influence and also the second highest absolute figure, records the seventh consecutive rise, with a cumulative index of 67% between May and November. According to Almeida, Rio Grande do Sul counted with the good performance of the sectors of leather, traveling articles and footwear. With the rise in November influenced by the sector of beverages, Amazonas offset the drop of 0.7% reported in October.
Exerting the biggest influence on the result of the national industry, São Paulo rose 1.5% in November, after declining 0.5% in October and growing five months between May and September, when it accrued a rise of 47%. "As in the last months, the positive influences in the São Paulo industry were the sectors of vehicles and machinery and equipment," says Almeida.
The Northeast Region (2.9%), Santa Catarina (2.8%), Ceará (1.7%) and Rio de Janeiro (1.6%) also posted more intense advances than the national average (1.2%). Paraná (1.2%) and Minas Gerais (0.6%) were the other places that grew.
Among the drops, Pará (-5.3%) and Mato Grosso (-4.3%) registered the most negative figures in November. Pará recorded the biggest drop in absolute terms and it was the major negative influence this month. "It is the third consecutive negative rate of the Pará industry, with a cumulative loss of 10.4," stresses Almeida, citing the mining and quarrying sector, which concentrates nearly 88% of the entire industrial output in Pará, and the food sector as negative influences.
On the other hand, Mato Grosso retreated once again after growing 0.8% in October. The major components of the drop were the negative figures of the food sector, very influential in the local industry, and of petroleum products and biofuels. The other three places that dropped in November were Pernambuco (-1.0%), Espírito Santo (-0.9%) and Goiás (-0.9%).
Ten places also rose compared with November 2019
In the comparison with November last year, the industrial output, which rose 2.8%, also grew in 10 out of 15 places surveyed. Paraná (14.0%), Santa Catarina (11.1%) and Pernambuco (10.0%) recorded the highest rises. Rio Grande do Sul (8.7%), Amazonas (7.8%), Ceará (6.0%), Minas Gerais (5.2%), São Paulo (4.7%) and the Northeast Region (3.0%) also posted higher rates than the national average. Bahia (1.0%) completes the list of places with a rise.
In contrast, Mato Grosso (-18.4%) registered the highest retreat in November 2020, followed by Rio de Janeiro (-7.0%), Pará (-4.6%), Goiás (- 4.2%) and Espírito Santo (-3.9%).
