The National Civil Construction Index (Sinapi) increased 0.52% in March, against the previous month, and was above the 0.21% recorded in February. The index, released today by the IBGE, had cumulative increases of 1.15% in the first quarter, and of 4.86%, in the last 12 months.

With that increase, the cost by square meter increased to R$ 1,126.82, being R$ 588.23 relative to material, up 0.79%, and R$ 538.59 relative to workforce, with an increase of 0.23%. According to  Augusto Oliveira, manager of the survey, material accounted for the main contribution to the result.

“Despite the positive changes in the two segments, material have contributed more than workforce, which is usually more significant when collective bargaining takes place”, the manager explains. That is the case of Bahia, which recorded the biggest increase among all states, 1.73%, pushed by the salary raise resulting from collective bargaining.

The South of the country recorded the biggest increase among the Major Regions, 0.82%, having reached R$ 1,172.08 per square meter. Increase was  result of higher construction costs in Paraná and Santa Catarina, pushed by material, and Rio Grande do Sul, due to the increase of workforce.

In the other Major Regions, costs of the sector increased 0.57% in the Southeast (R$ 1,177.76), 0.49% in the Northeast (R$ 1,045.73), 0;42% in the North (R$ 1,129.10) and 0.10% in the Central West (R$ 1,129.42).
