The President of the IBGE, Paulo Rabello de Castro, was invited last Friday to take over the Presidency of the Brazilian Development Bank - BNDES. Mr. Rabello de Castro accepted the invitation and will replace the economist Maria Silvia Bastos, who headed the BNDES for slightly more than a year.

Mr. Rabello de Castro exerted the Presidency of the IBGE for 11 months. His administration promoted the update of the technological park and enabled the implementation of the Agriculture Census. On his exit, Mr. Rabello de Castro stated that "(he) would not like to leave the IBGE, except for a mission. It happens that the IBGE personnel do not avoid missions. We even like difficult and sacrificial missions. This is the IBGE spirit. Always faithful."
