In July, industry advances in four of the 15 areas surveyed

With the increase of 0.6% of the national industry from June to July 2022, in the seasonally adjusted series, four of the 15 places surveyed by the IBGE showed positive rates, especially Pará (4.7%) and Mato Grosso ( 3.7%). Santa Catarina (1.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.7%) completed the group of places with increase in production in this month, while Minas Gerais presented zero change (0.0%).

Espírito Santo (-7.8%), Bahia (-7.3%) and the Northeast Region (-6.0%) had the biggest declines in this month. Ceará (-4.1%), Amazonas (-2.6%), Pernambuco (-1.9%), Paraná (-1.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (-0.7%), São Paulo (-0.6%) and Goiás (-0.4%) had the other negative results.

Compared to July 2021, the industrial sector showed a decline of 0.5%, with four of the 15 surveyed locations showing negative results. In the quarterly moving average, there was an increase in seven of the 15 surveyed locations.

The cumulative index in the year was negative in nine of the 15 areas surveyed, especially Pará (-8.0%), Ceará (-4.5%) and Santa Catarina (-4.2%). On the other hand, the cumulative index of the last 12 months had 12 of the 15 places surveyed with negative rates.

In the seasonally adjusted series, four of the fifteen areas surveyed showed positive rates, especially Pará (4.7%) and Mato Grosso (3.7%), with the first location marking the second consecutive positive result and accumulating a gain of 15.8% in this period and the last one eliminating the 2.4% loss recorded in the previous month.

Santa Catarina (1.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.7%) complete the set of places with positive indices in July 2022, while Minas Gerais showed zero change (0.0%) for the second consecutive month.

The sharpest reductions were in Espírito Santo (-7.8%), Bahia (-7.3%) and the Northeast Region (-6.0), with the first place intensifying the 1.3% drop seen in June, the second eliminating the gain of 7.6% accumulated in February-June 2022 and the third accumulating a loss of 6.8% in three consecutive months of decline in production.

The other negative rates were in Ceará (-4.1%), Amazonas (-2.6%), Pernambuco (-1.9%), Paraná (-1.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (-0, 7%), São Paulo (-0.6%) and Goiás (-0.4%).

The quarterly moving average was 0.2% in the quarter ended July 2022 compared to the previous month's level. Seven of the fifteen localities surveyed had positive rates in this month, with a highlight to the sharper advances in Mato Grosso (2.0%), Santa Catarina (1.4%), Amazonas (0.7%), Goiás (0.6%) and Paraná (0.6%).

On the other hand, Northeast Region (-2.3%), Rio de Janeiro (-2.0%), Espírito Santo (-2.0%), Bahia (-1.6%) and Pernambuco (-1.1 %) recorded the main declines in July 2022.

In comparison with July 2021, the national industrial sector retreated 0.5% in July 2022, with four of the fifteen places surveyed showing negative rates. In that month, Espírito Santo (-10.6%) registered a double-digit reduction and the sharpest one. Ceará (-3.9%), Northeast Region (-3.1%) and Pernambuco (-2.6%) completed the set of areas with negative indices in the month.

On the other hand, Mato Grosso (25.6%) had a double-digit increase, the most intense in July 2022. Amazonas (7.7%), Pará (4.8%), Santa Catarina (3.1%) , Rio Grande do Sul (2.7%), Rio de Janeiro (1.7%), São Paulo (1.7%), Goiás (0.9%), Minas Gerais (0.6%), Paraná ( 0.1%) and Bahia (0.1%) also showed positive rates in the month.

It is worth mentioning that July 2022 (21 days) had one working day less than the same month of the previous year (22).

In the year 2022 (January-July), compared to the same period in 2021, the reduction in industry (-2.0%) reached nine of the fifteen locations surveyed, with a highlight to Pará (-8 .0%), Ceará (-4.5%) and Santa Catarina (-4.2%). In Pernambuco (-4.0%), Espírito Santo (-2.3%), and São Paulo (-2.3%) there were also sharper falls than the national average (-2.0%), while Minas Gerais (-2.0%), Paraná (-0.8%) and Northeast Region (-0.1%) completed the set of areas with decrease in production in the cumulative index in the year.

On the other hand, Mato Grosso (23.2%) had the highest increase in the cumulative index in the year. Bahia (7.9%), Rio de Janeiro (3.3%), Amazonas (2.1%), Goiás (1.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.9%) also showed positive rates in thecumulative indicator for January-July 2022.

The  cumulative index in the last 12 months, by decreasing 3.0% in July 2022, maintained the downward trend started in August 2021 (7.2%). In regional terms, 12 of the 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates in July 2022, but only five showed less dynamism compared to the indices of last June.

Espírito Santo (from -0.4% to -1.6%), Minas Gerais (from 0.0% to -0.7%), Paraná (from 0.7% to 0.0%%), Santa Catarina (from -3.8% to -4.0%) and Rio de Janeiro (from 3.9% to 3.8%) showed losses between June and July 2022, while Mato Grosso (from 13.1% to 15.9%), Pará (from -9.0% to -7.7%), Amazonas (from -3.7% to -2.4%) and Bahia (from -2.7% to -1, 8%) marked the biggest gains between the two periods.
