Aiming at contributing to technical and scientific groups of several areas that work with information spatialization, the IBGE launches today the Access and Use of Geospatial Data manual. This the 14th edition of the Series of Technical Manuals of Geosciences, being available here.

Extensively illustrated, the 143-page manual brings concepts of Geodesy, Cartography and Geo-processing key to use software and Geographic Information Systems - GISs, as well as shows their features and tools.

The publication also presents information on a number of types of geospatial data and software to access and use them, highlighted by QGIS, an open and free development software that provides a larger coverage to users. And also guides de creation of cartograms and printing of maps.

The development of the Geographic Information Systems provided technical and scientific groups of several areas with access to spatial information. Today, the use of open and free tools allows users of different profiles to produce their own maps and cartograms, either for personal, academic or professional use.

In this context, the IBGE hopes that this work meets the expectations of different types of researchers and users of spatial data, including those from different areas of geosciences, aiming at improving the use and production of geospatial knowledge and allowing the development of new tools, complements and applications.
