Capacity of 79.2 million metric tons makes silos prevail in warehousing network

In terms of storage capacity, silos prevailed in the country, having reached 79.2 million metric tons in the second semester this year, a growth of 2.5% in relation to the second semester of 2016. Silos were followed by automated and bulk warehouses, which hit 63,0 million metric tons of storage capacity, decreasing 1.9%. Conventional, structural and inflatable warehouses added up to 25.8 million metric tons, which represented a drop of 2.6% in relation to the second semester of 2016.

Five main products present a high in stocks

Soybeans represented the greatest stocked volume (34.9 million metric tons) followed by the corn stocks (13.0 million), rice (4.9 million), wheat (2.4 million) and coffee (898,4 thousand metric tons). These products represented 95.5% of the volume of grains stocked between the products monitored by the survey.

In June, soybean crops were practically totally harvested, with a record production estimated at 115.1 million of metric tons, an increase of 19.5% in relation to the previous year. The production was favored by the excellent weather conditions from the planting to the harvesting.

Corn harvested until 06/30/2017 reached 97.7 million metric tons, 53.5% higher than that recorded in the same period of 2016, while the stock presented 13.0 million metric tons.

The wheat stocks totaled 2.4 million metric tons, a value 55.2% above last year's. The 6.8 million metric metric tons previously harvested, coupled with the 11.9% increase in the imports in the first half of 2017 and the reduction in the processing pace of the miles contributed to the increase of the amount of cereal stored.

The stocks of paddy rice had an increase of 29.4% in comparison with the reference date of 2016. In June, the 2017 crop was already harvested and the estimates point out a rise of 16.2% in the production, due, to a great extent, to the favorable weather conditions.

The volume of coffee stocked increased by 7.3% in comparison with the reference date of the previous year. In June 30 2017, there were 898.4 thousand metric tons stored.
