Costs in civil construction close year with a rise of 4.03%

Released today (10) by the IBGE, the National Index of Civil Construction - Sinapi closed 2019 with a rise of 4.03%, standing 0.38 percentage points below the rate in 2018, which had been 4.41%. This indicator measures the national cost for the housing sector, which changed to R$1,158.81, being R$605.54 relative to materials and R$553.17 to workforce. In relation to November, the change in the month was 0.22%, the same registered in December 2018.

The prices of materials dropped (-0.13%) in relation to the previous month. Yet, they rose (4.54%) in the cumulative index in 2019.

On the other hand, the price of manpower increased 0.59% in December. "This result was influenced by collective work agreements, which rose the costs in the states of Piauí and Minas Gerais. This rate was quite high if compared with the result of December 2018 (-0.02%)", explains Augusto Oliveira, an IBGE researcher, highlighting that the rise was lower than that of materials in the cumulative index in the year (3.47%).

All the regions rose their prices in December, being the Southeast the region in which the index rose the most: 0.31%. In the other regions, the rates were 0.20% in the Northeast, 0.19% in the Central-West, 0.17% in the North and 0.02% in the South. However, the South recorded the highest rate in the cumulative index in the year (5.64%), followed by the Southeast (4.39%) Among the states, Piauí posted the highest rate for the last month of the year, 1.11%, influenced by the rise of 3.86% in the costs of workforce.

Concerning the costs of construction by region, the values per square meter in December were R$1,169.45 in the North, R$1,067.68 in the Northeast, R$1,208.86 in the Southeast, R$1,222.66 in the South and R$1,165.74 in the Central-West.
