The services sector declined 0.2% in March, compared to February, according to the Monthly Survey of Service (PMS), released today by the IBGE. Of the five activities investigated, three had a negative change, especially the segment of professional, administrative and complementary services, which fell 1.8%.

Transportation, support services to transportation and mailing activities, with a decrease of 0.8%, and other services, with a decrease of 0.4%, were the activities that also presented negative results. While information and communication services and services rendered to families increased 2.3% and 2.1%, respectively.

In March, professional, administrative and complementary services returned to the lowest point of the time series, which had already been reached in January 2018. The survey has been disseminated by the IBGE since 2011.

According to PMS manager Rodrigo Lobo, the volume of services as a whole was 12.8% below the peak of the time series, registered in November 2014, and only 0.8% above the lowest point, which was in March 2017.

"Since it reached the lowest point in the series, the services industry has been showing a series of positive and negative results, hovering near the lowest level," said the manager.

In the comparison against the same month of the previous year, the segment of professional, administrative and complementary services presented the 36th negative rate, falling 2.6%. It was the activity that most negatively impacted the global services index, which was -0.8%.
