The segment of services rendered to families (hotels, restaurants, sport activities and others) was the only one to grow (0.9%) in July against the previous month. So indicates the Monthly Survey of Services (PMS), released today by the IBGE. It registered a 0.8% decrease in the volume of services in relation to June, after having registered a high of 1.3%. The cumulative rate of the year stayed at -4.0% and, over 12 months, at -4.6%.

Manager Roberto Saldanha explains one of the aspects of influence on the PMS results: "July was the last month to withdraw the FGTS (Length-of-Service Guarantee Fund) inactive accounts; therefore, we can consider that household income growth contributed to the increase in the consumption of services".

While Services rendered to families grew, Tourism Activities decreased 2.1% in relation to June and 5.0% in comparison to July 2016. Despite June being a period of school vacation, which stimulates trips and hotel staying in the country, Saldanha claims that "this segment has recorded a predominantly negative background due to, among other reasons, the inflation on the prices of airfares in July".

Regionally, in the comparison with June, Tourism activities had growth in Goiás (4,2%), Ceará (3.8%), Santa Catarina (3.3%), Pernambuco (2.1%), São Paulo (0.6%) and Paraná (0.3%). The drops of the segment were seen in the Federal District (-3.6%), Espírito Santo (-3.5%), Rio de Janeiro (-3.1%), Bahia (-2.0%), Minas Gerais (-1.6%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-1.3%).
