Mineral extraction and food products boost industry in Espírito Santo in June

Iron ore (3/4 of the mining and quarrying sector) and chocolate candy/bar (more than 50% of the food sector) were the products that contributed to the 10% growth of Industry in the state of Espírito Santo, in June, over the same month of 2016. According to the Monthly Survey of Industry - Regional Physical Production, carried out by the IBGE, in the January-June cumulative index , the industry of the state registered increase of 4.5%, and, in relation to May, of 0.1%
Mining and quarrying (60%) and food (12%) together represent nearly 72% of the Industry of Espírito Santo. IBGE analyst, Rodrigo Lobo, contextualized the increase in the result: "The environmental accident in Mariana/MG, in November 2015, influenced the results of Espírito Santo. Recovery took place throughout last year and was leveraged to a large extent by the mining and quarrying sector."
Besides Espírito Santo (0.1%), eight of the 14 places surveyed recorded industrial output expansion. The highlights were Rio de Janeiro (3.1%), Amazonas (2.8%), Pernambuco (1.7%) and Minas Gerais (1.6%). The main negative results stood with Bahia (-10%) and Northeast Region (-4%)
