[Retratos] Statistics enrich discussion on gender inequality

Information on education, sexual and reproductive health, participation in the labor market and time dedicated to care of persons and household tasks: these are some of the key indicators to enrich the discussion on gender and put this issue on the agenda whenever conceiving public policies.

Every society establishes differences between what is expected, allowed and appreciated in a woman and what is expected, allowed and appreciated in a man. In the Brazilian case, the time series of the social indicators released by the IBGE point out that color or race, being a disabled person and living in urban or rural areas, among others, can significantly impact on the statistics, reinforcing inequalities.

In the month in which the International Women´s Day is celebrated, get to know some IBGE´s studies and surveys that provide important information on the life conditions of the Brazilian feminine population.
