"Cooperation between institutions is a key issue when we deal with environmental information. The different ways to obtain primary information is one of the characteristics: direct, remote, through satellite. Each institution has different ways to obtain data and produce its statistics. This meeting has the merit of integrating the institutions", explains Wadih in the opening session.

"We are confident that its possible by way of cooperation. I think we will arrive at a good outcome. There are a number of initiatives to produce data and indicators. Monitoring the SDGs is a huge challenge for every country", highlighted Wadih.

This meeting is one more step in the formulation of indicators that help to monitor the 169 targets of the 17 SDGs established by the United Nations. They are key for the countries to know where they are in the search for fulfilling the 2030 Agenda.

Besides the discussion about the SDGs, the seminar is an opportunity to foster the cooperation in the production and dissemination of information on the environment. The standardization of these data is a challenge, since the Latin American and Caribbean countries have different realities.
