Soybean, corn and rice crops are expected to amount to more than 226 million metric tons, making up a total 93.7% of the Brazilian agricultural output in 2017: soybeans, with 47.5%; corn, with 41.1%; and rice, with 5.1%. That is what informs the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), released today by the IBGE.  The expected output for 2017, according to the September estimate, is about 242 million metric tons, with an increase of 30.3% versus the overall amount harvested in 2016.

In the survey, released monthly by the IBGE, the output of corn recorded and increase of 1.1% in September, against the August figure. “The latest harvests from Mato Grosso have led to the increase of output and to the update of results”, says Carlos Antônio Barradas, researcher from the IBGE.

Against the 2016 figure, corn also features as one of the crops expected to add to the Brazilian agricultural output in 2017, with an increase of 55.2%. According to Barradas, rainfall this year has helped make harvest more abundant. “Last year, the drought damaged most crops, mainly in the Central West Region”.
