Corn leads Brazilian grain stocks

June 08, 2017 09h00 AM | Last Updated: July 18, 2017 04h06 PM

The overall volume of corn grain stored on December 31, 2016 was 8.4 million metric tons, 16.7% than the amount found stored in the country on the same date in 2015. Decline can be see as a result of the decrease of 25.7% in the output of this grain last year (21.9 million metric tons versus the 2015 figure). These are results of the Survey of Stocks relative to the second semester of 2016.

According to Adriana Mendes Nogueira de Araújo, researcher from the IBGE, another highlight is soybean grain. Although corn recorded the biggest percent increase (97.4%) in terms of stocks (6.3 million metric tons), the volume represents very little in comparison with the national output of soybean, 95.7 million metric tons. Nevertheless, the small amount stored in this period is considered normal given the approach of a new harvesting period.
