National Index of Civil Construction changes 0.17% in May

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed by 0.17% in May, standing 0.08 percentage points below the rate of the previous month (0.25%) and 0.06 percentage points below the index of May 2019 (0.11%). From January to May, the index accumulates 1.33%. In the last twelve months, the rate totaled 3.74%, a result above the 3.68% registered in the preceding twelve months.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which closed April at R$1,172.05, increased to R$1,174.05 in May, of which R$615.56 were related to materials and R$558.46, to workforce.

The share of materials changed by 0.19%, registering an increase of 0.10 percentage points in relation to the previous month (0.09%), while compared to May 2019 (0.39%), there was a decrease of 0.20 percentage points.

From January to May, the cumulative figures are 1.64% (materials) and 0.95% (workforce), whereas in twelve months they were 3.89% (materials) and 3.51% (workforce) .

Norhteast Region boosts

The Northeast Region recorded the largest regional change in May, 0.27%. The rate in the Northeast was affected by the increase seen in the professional categories in Maranhão.

The other regions presented the following results: 0.16% (North), 0.11% (Southeast), 0.22% (South) and 0.03% (Central-West). The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$1,181.52 (North); R$1,089.44 (Northeast); R$1,222.84 (Southeast); R$1,230.98 (South) and R$1,176.20 (Central-West).

Among the states, Maranhão, mainly due to the salary increase of professionals mentioned above, was the state that presented the greatest monthly change: 1.57%. In the North Region, the highest increases were in Amapá (0.67%) and Roraima (0.54%). In the South Region, the highest increase was in Paraná (0.50). In the Southeast and Central-West Regions, there were small changes.
