Quarterly livestock surveys – first results: cattle, pigs and hogs, and chicken slaughter rise in Q3 2019

The first results of the animal production in the third quarter of 2019 pointed out that cattle slaughter rose 4%, that of pigs and hogs increased 2.4% and that of chicken grew 3.3%, compared with the previous quarter. Compared with the third quarter of 2018, cattle slaughter rose 0.5%, that of pigs and hogs increased 0.8% and that of chicken grew 3.1%. Milk acquisition was of 6.29 billion liters, an increase of 6.9% compared with the last quarter and of 0.5% in the annual comparison. The acquisition of raw hide pieces by tanning houses fell 7.4% against the third quarter of 2018, yet it grew 0.6% over the second quarter of 2019, adding up to 8.44 million whole cattle raw hides. 956.62 million dozens of hen eggs were produced in the third quarter of 2019, an increase of 3.4% in the annual comparison and of 1.5% in the quarterly comparison. Cattle slaughter rises 4% over previous quarter

In the third quarter of 2019, 8.35 million cattle head were slaughtered, registering an increase of 4.0% over the previous quarter. In the comparison with the third quarter of 2018, it positively changed 0.5%.

The production of 2.16 million tonnes of cattle carcasses in the third quarter of 2019 increased 2.1% in relation to the same quarter last year and 8.0% over the second quarter of 2019.

Hogs and pigs slaughter adds up to 11.67 million head

Hogs and pigs slaughter added up to 11.67 million head in the third quarter of 2019, an increase of 2.4% compared with the last quarter. The increase was of 0.8% in the relation with the same quarter last year.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses registered 1.05 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2019, which consisted of increases of 3.3% compared with the immediately previous quarter and of 1.1% in relation to the third quarter of 2018.

Chicken slaughter increases 3.1% in annual comparison

In the third quarter of 2019, 1.47 billion chicken head were slaughtered This figure represented an increase of 3.3% over the previous quarter and an increase of 3.1% compared with the same period in 2018.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses was of 3.45 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2019, increasing 3.2% in relation to the immediately previous quarter and 2.1% over the third quarter of 2018.

Purchase of milk rises 6.9% over last quarter

In the third quarter of 2019, the acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (either federal, state or municipal) was of 6.29 billion liters. This value corresponded to an increase of 6.9% compared with the volume recorded in the second quarter this year. The rise was of 0.5% in relation to the third quarter of 2018.

Leather acquisition drops 7.4% in annual comparison

The tanning houses investigated in the Leather Quarterly Survey – those that carry out the tanning of at least 5,000 whole pieces of cattle raw hide per year – reported to have received 8.44 million whole cattle raw hides in the third quarter of 2019. This amount was 0.6% higher than that recorded in the previous quarter and 7.4% lower in the comparison with the third quarter of 2018.

Production of hen eggs increases 1.5% over previous quarter

The production of hen eggs was of 956.62 million dozens in the third quarter of 2019. This result represented an increase of 1.5% compared with the previous quarter and of 3.4% in relation to the same quarter in 2018.
