* Seasonally-adjusted series

Still in the seasonally-adjusted series, the quarterly moving average for the whole industry retreated 0.7% in the quarter ended in October 2018 against the previous month. In regional terms, nine places registered negative rates, highlighted by the most intense declines reported in Paraná (-1.8%), São Paulo (-1.6%), Pernambuco (-1.4%) and the Northeast Region (-0.8%). This month, Rio Grande do Sul (14.8%) and Pará (12.9%) registered the steepest advances, leveraged, to a great extent, by the growth in the sectors of motor vehicles, trailers and bodies, pulp, paper and paper products, and fabricated metal products in the first place; and of mining and quarrying industries in the second.

Santa Catarina (7.8%), Bahia (7.1%), Espírito Santo (5.3%), Pernambuco (4.7%), the Northeast Region (2.6%), Amazonas (1.9%), Minas Gerais (1.8%), Ceará (1.5%) and Paraná (1.2%) also recorded positive rates above the national average (1.1%).

Conversely, Goiás (-6.5%) posted the most intense retreat, mainly pressed by the drops in coke, petroleum products and biofuels, motor vehicles, trailers and bodies, and other chemicals. Rio de Janeiro (-3.1%), Mato Grosso (-3.0%) and São Paulo (-2.8%) were the other places that registered negative rates this month.

In the cumulative period between January and October 2018 against the same period in 2017, 12 out of the 15 places surveyed rose, highlighted by the sharpest advances in Pará (10.1%), Amazonas (6.9%), Pernambuco (6.8%) and Rio Grande do Sul (5.6%). Santa Catarina (4.4%), Rio de Janeiro (2.8%) and Paraná (2.0%) also increased above the industry average (1.8%), whereas São Paulo (1.8%), the Northeast Region (1.1%), Bahia (0.9%), Ceará (0.4%) and Mato Grosso (0.3%) were the other places with positive figures. On the other hand, Goiás (-3.5%), Espírito Santo
(-1.8%) and Minas Gerais (-1.3%) declined in the cumulative index in the year.

Having advanced 2.3% in October 2018 in the the cumulative index over the last 12 months, the national industry lost pace against the results of July (3.3%), August (3.1%) and September (2.7%). In regional terms, 12 out of the 15 places surveyed registered positive rates in October 2018, though ten of them showed lower dynamism against the September´s indexes.
