IPCA was 0.45% in October

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of October was 0.45%, the highest rate for the month since 2015 (0.82%) and 0.03 percentage points (p.p.) below September's index (0.48%).

The cumulative index in the year (3.81%) stood above the one recorded in the same period last year (2.21%). The cumulative index in the last 12 months rose to 4.56%, while it had been 4.53% in the prior 12-month period. In October 2017, the rate reached 0.42%. The prices of the group Food and beverages accelerated from 0.10% in September to 0.59% in October, whereas Transportation decelerated from 1.69% to 0.92%. Together, these two groups accounted fro 43% of household expenditures and contributed with nearly 70% of the monthly index.

Transportation presented also the greatest change between the groups of products and services surveyed . as well as exerting the main impact in September index. with 0,17 pp, Fuels were the highlight in the group for the second month in a row. with 2,44% of change and 0,14 pp of impact. which represents almost a third of the IPCA, All the items presented deceleration between September to October: ethanol (from 5,42% to 4,07%). diesel fuel (from 6,91% to 2,45%). gasoline (from 3,94% to 2,18%) and vehicular gas (from 0.85% to 0,06%),

Also in Transportation. airfares had a high of 7,49%. but decelerated against 16,81%. in September,

Food and beverage (0,59%) had the second highest impact in the IPCA (0,15 pp). leveraged. mainly. by the food at home (from 0,00% in September to 0,91% in October). with a highlight to tomatoes (51,27%). potato (13,67%). whole chicken (1,95%) and meat (0,57%),  Among the drops. the highlight were cassava flour (-4,69%). the long-life milk (-2,60%). the eggs (-1,12%) and ground coffee
(-0,94%), Food away changed 0,02%. with highlight to snacks (-0,25%),

In the groupHousing (0,14%). the electricity increases 0,12%. partially because of the increase of 15,23%. in one of the concessionaires of São Paulo (0,25%) as of October 23; 6,18% in Brasília (0,35%) and 15,56% in Goiânia (1,06%). both in effect on October 22, The other areas surveyed changed between -2,39% of Recife and 6,56% Fortaleza. due to the increases and reduction in quotes of PIS/COFINS, It is worth mentioning that. since June. the red tariff level 2 is in effect. with an additional charge of R$0,05 by kwh consumed,

Also in Housing. the change of 0,65% in piped gas was due to tho the increase of 14,89% in the tariff Curitiba. in effect since September 14,

The inflation was greater in Porto Alegre (0,72%). influenced by the high of 66,08% in the prices of tomatoes and of 2,55% of gasoline, The lowest index. of 0,21%. was registered in Recife.  with decreases in electricity (-2,39%) and in snacks (-1,97%) and  in Rio de Janeiro. with reduction in the prices of  long-life milk (-5,04%) and of meals (-0,86%),

The IPCA has been calculated by IBGE since 1980. It refers to households with monthly income of 1 to 40 minimum wages, whatever the source. It encompasses ten metropolitan areas in Brazil, besides Brasília and the municipalities of Goiânia, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís and Aracaju.

INPC changes 0.40% in October

The National Consumer Price Index - INPC changed 0.40% in October, the highest rise for the month since 2015 (0.77%), standing 0.10 pp above the rate of 0.30% of September. The cumulative index in the year stayed at 3.55%, above the rate of 1.62% recorded in the same period last year. The index stayed at 4.00% in the last 12 months, well above the rate of 3.97% of the previous 12 months. The rate hit 0.37% in October 2017.

Food products rose 0.61% in October, while the rise had been 0.05% in the previous month. Non-food products changed 0.31% in October, whereas, in the previous month, they had increased 0.41%.

The highest index was in Vitória (0.71%). The area had a change of 89.11% in tomatoes and of 2.12% in electricity. Conversely, the lowest rate occurred in Rio de Janeiro (0.15%), where the drops in long-life milk (-5.04%) and in meals (-0.86%) were a highlight.

It encompasses ten metropolitan areas in Brazil, besides Brasília and the municipalities of Goiânia, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís and Aracaju.

In order to estimate the IPCA and the INPC, the prices collected from September 28 to October 26, 2018 (reference) were compared with the prices in force from August 30 to September 27, 2018 (base).
