National Index of Civil Construction changes 0.58% in June

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed 0.58% in June, staying 0.03 percentage points (pp) above the 0.55% registered in May. It was the second consecutive high of the index, which in June reached its top in the year. The cumulative index of the last 12 months was 4.07%, above the 3.87% recorded by the same indicator in May. In June 2017, the index was 0.38%.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which in May closed at R$1,083.13, in June increased to R$1,089.46, of which R$558.75 were relative to materials, and R$530.71 referred to labor force.

The share of materials recorded a change of 0.56%, recording a high of 0.29 percentage points in relation to May (0.27%). Considering the month of June of the previous year, the high was more significant, as a consequence of the stable rate of 0.01% this month in 2017. The share of labor force, even with the collective agreements reached, changed 0.61%, presenting decrease both in relation to the previous month (0.86%) and  in relation to June 2017 (0.78%), from 0.25 and 0.17 percentage points, respectively.

In the first half of the year, the cumulative rate stayed at 2.53% (material) and at 1.73% (labor force). The cumulative rates in 12 months stayed at 4.20% (material) and at 3.98% (labor force).

Among the regions, the South had the biggest monthly change

With positive indexes in all states of the region, and collective agreements reached in Santa Catarina and in Rio Grande do Sul, the South Region got the biggest change in June, 0.88%. In the other regions, the rates are: 0.25% (North), 0.60% (Northeast), 0.63% (Southeast) and 0.27% (Central-West).

The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$1,074.87 (North); R$1,014.92 (Northeast); R$1,140.77 (Southeast); R$ 1,127.22 (South) and R$ 1,094.67 (Central-West). 

Rio Grande do Sul records highest rise among states

Under the impact of the increases agreed in collective bargaining, Rio Grande do Sul, with 1.59%, was the state that recorded the biggest monthly change - followed by Santa Catarina (1.53%), Pernambuco (1.29%) and Bahia (1.16%), also with collective agreements signed. In Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Amapá there were also increases in the professional groups.

SINAPI, created in 1969, has the purpose of producing information on costs and indexes in a systematic way and with a national coverage, in order to elaborate and assess budgets as well as monitor costs.
