National Index of Civil Construction changes by 0.18% in December and closes 2017 at 3.82%

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), calculated by the IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed by 0.18% in December, being 0.30 percentage points below the November rate. In 2017, that rate was only above the ones of April (0.15%) and October (0.16%). The cumulative indicator in the year was 3.82%, below the 6.64% recorded in 2016. The national cost of construction, by square meter, which closed November at R$ 1,064.76, in November, changed to R$ 1,066.68, being R$ 544.97 relative to material and R$ 521.71 to workforce. The share relative to workforce registered a change of 0.14%, 0.53 percentage points below that of the previous month (0.67%). Against the 2016 figure, the rate increased 0.13 percentage points. On the other hand, workforce recorded a change of 0.22%, being close to the November figure (0.28%). The share of workforce (0.22%) was below that in December 2016 (1.02%), a moment when four collective agreements had been set. Cumulative results for 2017 show that materials recorded a change of 2.61%, whereas costs of workforce reached 5.17%. The share relative to materials closed year 2016 at 2.92%, and that relative to workforce, at 10.89%.
Northeast Region has biggest cumulative result in 2017
With an increase in the share of material in six states and with a change in workforce in Rio Grande do Norte, the Northeast Region accounted for the biggest regional change in December (0.32%). It also recorded the biggest hike in the year, 4.56%. The lowest rate was that of the North Region (-0.05%), which had negative indexes in Amazonas, Roraima, Pará and Tocantins. The other results by Major Region were: 0.16% (Southeast), 0.13% (South) and 0.11%(Central West). As for construction costs, the December figures, by square meter, were: R$ 1,065.63 (North); R$ 991.97 (Northeast); R$ 1,111.87 (Southeast); R$ 1,105.39 (South) and R$ 1,083.05 (Central West).
In December, Rio Grande do Norte recorded biggest increase
Although the collective labor convention (annual period of negotiations between employers and workers) has not yet been finished, there was significant increase of workforce in Rio Grande do Norte, which recroded the biggest monthly rate, 2.38%, with increase of the average cost by square meter to R$ 963.98.
