From August to September, the services sector remained virtually unchanged (in the seasonally-adjusted series), with slight decrease of 0.3% in the volume of services rendered, after having recorded decreases of 1.0% in August and of 0.8% in July. Against September 2016 (series without seasonal adjustment), the volume of services rendered faced a decrease of 3.2%, and kept its sequence of negative rates, observed since April 2015. With these results, the cumulative rate in the year was -3.7%, and in 12 months, -4.3%.

By activity, in the seasonally-adjusted series, positive changes came from Services rendered to families (5.9%) and Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (0.3%). The other segments recorded the following negative rates: Information and communication services (-1.8%); Professional, administrative and complementary services (-0.2%) and Other services (-0.1%). The special group of Tourism activities recorded an increase of 2.0% in relation to August, interrupting a series of five consecutive months of positive rates. 
Nominal revenue in September also remained stable in relation to that of August, with a change of 0.2%, in the seasonally-adjusted series, and in comparison with September 2016, the figure without seasonal adjustment was 2.3%. In comparison with the same month a year ago,, the volume of services decreased 3.2%. The segments of Services rendered to families and Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing, with rates of 4.6% and 3.4%, respectively, were the only positive contributions to the index.  
The three activities that accounted for the decrease of services volume, in increasing order of contribution to the overall rate, were: Information and communication services, with -2.1 p.p; Professional, administrative and complementary services, with -1.6 p.p. and Other services, with -0.5 p.p.

Results of Q3 2017, against the same period in 2016, point to a decrease of 3.0%, the main highlight being, however, the lowest negative rate since Q3 2015, on this same bais for comparison.

Following the monthly trend, the segments of Services rendered to families and Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing recorded the main negative changes, with 0.6% and 3.9%, respectively. The negative changes were: Professional, administrative and complementary services (-6.9%); Other services (-8.9%) and Information and communication services (-4.4%). Tourism activities recorded a decrease of 6.6% in the quarter. 

Tocantins, Rondônia and Mato Grosso recorded the main decreases between August and September 

With reference to the regional results for the Services sector in September, against the August figures, the main positive changes in volume came from the Federal District and Alagoas (both with 2.5%), Paraíba (0.8%) and Piauí (0.3%). The main negative changes were those of Tocantins (-4.0%), Rondônia (-3.2%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (-2.4%).
As for the results without seasonal adjustment, in comparison with those of the same period a year ago, Mato Grosso (22.5%) and Paraná (5.7%) accounted for the only positive changes. The main negative ones were registered in Sergipe (-14.3%), Tocantins (-12.9%) and Rondônia (-11.1%).

Tourism activities: Rio de Janeiro recorded increase of 6.3% between August and September 

The anaylsis of volume figures of Tourism Activities, by region, shows that Espírito Santo and Goiás were the only Federation Units to record negative changes, -1.5% and -3.0%, respectively. The positive chsnge came from: Rio de Janeiro (6.3%), Pernambuco (6.2%), Santa Catarina (2.7%), Paraná (2.1%), Bahia (1.0%), Federal District (0.9%), São Paulo (0.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.3%) and Minas Gerais (0.2%). Ceará recorded null change (0.0%).
Against the same month a year ago, in the series without adjutment, the positive changes came from: Paraná (10.2%), Pernambuco (7.8%), Santa Catarina (7.2%), Goiás (5.2%), Espírito Santo (4.8%), Minas Gerais (1.2%). The negative changes were: Rio de Janeiro (-21.3%), Federal District (-17.5%), Rio Grande do Sul (-12.8%), São Paulo (-5.6%), Ceará (-3.0%) and Bahia (-1.8%).
