In Q2 2016, slaughter of hogs and pigs and production of eggs hit record figures

The slaughter of hogs and pigs in the country reached 10.46 million head, the highest figure since 1997. The production of eggs also hit the record of the time series, started in 1987, and reached 757.51 million dozens. Cattle slaughter on its turn, remained stable in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2015, whereas the acquisition of milk fell 11.8% in the same comparison. The acquisition of leather rawhides increased by 5.6% in relation to the second quarter of 2015 and chicken slaughter grew 6.5% in the same period. Cattle slaughter gets stable over Q2 2015

In the 2nd quarter of 2016 7.63 million cattle head were slaughtered under some kind of sanitary inspection service. This quantity was 4.5% higher than the one recorded in the previous quarter and virtually equal (change of -0.05%, or 3.64 thousand less head) to that of the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Among the 27 Federation Units that comprise the survey, cattle slaughter had drops in 12 and increases in 15. The most significant reductions occurred in Minas Gerais (-98.52 thousand head) and São Paulo (-34.47 thousand head), while the largest increases occurred in Rondônia (+81.48 thousand head), Mato Grosso (+48, 63,000 head) and Mato Grosso do Sul (+36.83 thousand head).

Mato Grosso remains ahead with a wide margin in cattle slaughter, followed by its two neighbors in the Central-West: Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs reaches highest mark since 1997: 10.46 million head

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, 10.46 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered, up 3.9% compared to the previous quarter and 8.0% (770.93 thousand more head) compared to the same period of 2015. This is the highest result of the survey, which began in 1997.

There were increases in the slaughter of hogs and pigs in 19 of the 25 FUs comprised in the survey. The main increases occurred in Santa Catarina (+189.29 thousand head), Rio Grande do Sul (+137.43 thousand head), Minas Gerais (+115.83 thousand head), Mato Grosso (+96.43 thousand head) and Paraná (+87.42 thousand head).

Santa Catarina continues to lead the slaughter of hogs and pigs, followed by Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.

Chicken slaughter grows 6.5% over Q2 2015

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, 1.49 billion chicken head were slaughtered. There were increases of 1.0% compared to the previous quarter and of 6.5% compared to the same period in 2015.
The slaughter of 91.59 million more chicken head in the 2nd quarter of 2016 compared to the same period last year was driven by slaughter increases in 16 Federation Units and the highlights were: Paraná (+37.85 million head), Rio Grande do Sul (+24.22 million head) and Santa Catarina (+12.18 million head). The main decrease occurred in Goiás (-4.57 million head).
Paraná remains leading with a wide margin the slaughter of chickens, followed by Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, the acquisition of raw milk by establishments that operate under some sort of sanitary inspection (federal, state or municipal) was 5.17 billion liters. There were decreases of 8.4% and 11.8% respectively in comparison with the previous quarter and the 2nd quarter of 2015.

The acquisition of 474.0 million less liters of milk in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2015 was driven by declines in 22 of the 26 Federation Units participating in the Quarterly Milk Survey. The highlights were Minas Gerais (-124.81 million liters), Rio Grande do Sul (-106.11 million liters), Goiás (-93.97 million liters), São Paulo (-36.47 million liters) and Paraná (-29.34 million liters).

Minas Gerais remains quite ahead in terms of milk acquisition, followed by Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.

Purchase of leather increases by 5.6% over the same quarter of 2015

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, the tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather (those conducting the tanning of at least 5,000 units of whole rawhides per year) reported having received 8.64 million whole pieces of rawhide. There were increases of 3.0% compared to the previous quarter and of 5.6% compared to the 2nd quarter 2015.

The high of 461,550 whole pieces of rawhide at national level, in comparison with the 2 nd quarter of 2015 was driven by increases in 14 of the 21 Federation Units with tanneries under the scope of the survey. The largest increases occurred in Mato Grosso do Sul (+156.77 thousand pieces), Tocantins (+85.6 thousand pieces), Paraná (+80.58 thousand pieces) and Rondônia (+66.86 thousand pieces). Highlights in reductions in purchases were Pará (-94.02 thousand pieces), São Paulo (-35.2 thousand pieces) and Goiás (-27.82 thousand pieces).

Mato Grosso remains on top in terms of rawhides received by tanneries, followed by Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo.

Hen eggs production is the largest since 1987

The production of hen eggs reached a record of 757.51 million dozens in the 2nd quarter of 2016 - considering the time series by quarter started in 1987. This figure was 0.1% higher than that recorded in the previous quarter and 5.0% higher than that of the 2nd quarter of 2015.

The production of 36.05 million dozen more eggs than the 2nd quarter of 2015 was driven by increases in 18 of the 25 Federation Units with farms encompassed by the survey. Highlights of increase were São Paulo (+11.48 million dozen), Goiás (+8.69 million dozen), Espírito Santo (+5.05 million dozen), Ceará (+4.15 million dozen) and Mato Grosso (+3.17 million dozen).

São Paulo remains as the isolated leader in the ranking of egg production by Federation Units, followed by Paraná and Minas Gerais.
