Retratos Magazine: the history of agribusiness in Brazil

Brazilwood, sugarcane, coffee and rubber are some of the raw material which compose the Economic Cycles of Brazil. In spite of their didactic value, that theory puts aside agricultural activities which are relevant to the exploration of the Brazilian territory, the raising of cattle and subsistence agriculture. If our past can be seen from a simplistic perspective of export monoculture, in the present we have the chance to explore a diverse rural environment. It is in this complex setting that the Census of Agriculture takes place.
From October 1, 2017 to Februry 2018, about 19 thousand enumerators will be present in more than 4 thousand municipalities to take part in the 10th Census of Agriculture in Brazil. Bsides providing fundamental elements for the elaboration of public policies, the survey will also help illustrate the recent history and the future path of rural activity in the country.
