Roberto Olinto takes office today as President of the IBGE

The Ministry of Planning has just confirmed that the new President of the IBGE, Roberto Olinto, is taking office today, June 1st, at 5pm, at the headquarters of the Brazilian Development Bank - BNDES, located at 100 República do Chile Avenue, Downtown, Rio de Janeiro (Arino Ramos Ferreira Theater).  

Mr. Olinto went today to Brasília, where he presented himself to the President of the Republic, Michel Temer, and to the Ministry of Planning, Dyogo Henrique de Oliveira.

Mr. Olinto took over the Directorate of Surveys of the IBGE in August 2014. Graduated in Systems Engineering from PUC-RJ, he also has a master´s degree in Systems Engineering and PhD in Production Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ. Mr. Olinto joined the IBGE in 1980 at the sector of Derived Statistics and Economic Studies. He headed the National Accounts Coordination from 2005 to 2014.

At the international level, Mr. Olinto is member of the expert group in National Accounts of the United Nations, represents the countries of the Mercosur and Chile in the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and is member of the Steering Board of the International Comparison Program - ICP.

Mr. Olinto replaces Paulo Rabello de Castro, who leaves the IBGE after 11 months as President. Mr. Rabello de Castro takes office today as the new President of the BNDES.
